Drivers, hospital users and residents travelling through Spalding face a fresh set of restrictions this month as the Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel Improvements project moves into its next construction phases.
Lincolnshire County Council says work will continue through September on footways, drainage and new traffic-signal infrastructure. The project update, published on 1 September 2026, follows substantial progress in August, including completion of 85% of the westside footway for Phase 1.
What is changing on Spalding roads?
The next stage will affect the route between Park Road and Woolram Wygate. Phase 3 is scheduled to run from early September to late October, with a northbound one-way system on Pinchbeck Road from north of the Park Road junction. Woolram Wygate will be closed around the clock because of its proximity to the level crossing.
The signed diversion for this phase will run via Park Road, Park Close and Woolram Wygate, in both directions. Candent Gas is also due to work within the closure.
A separate restriction will apply during Phase 4, which runs from Hospital Road to Woolram Wygate from early September to mid-December. Pinchbeck Road will again operate as a northbound one-way system. Access to the hospital will be maintained from the north.
The diversion for Phase 4 is via Pinchbeck Road, Spalding Road, Wardentree Lane, the A16, Holbeach Road and West Elloe Avenue, and back in the opposite direction.
Earlier restrictions remain part of the project
Phase 1, between West Elloe Avenue and King’s Road, is subject to a northbound one-way system from mid-June to mid-October. National Grid is working within the lane closure while work takes place on the west side. The diversion uses West Elloe Avenue, Holbeach Road, the A16, A1157, A15, A151, Winsover Road, Bond Street Court and King’s Road.
Phase 2, between West Elloe Avenue and Park Road, involves multi-way temporary traffic signals and a 24-hour Park Road closure because of the nearby level crossing. Its stated programme runs from late July to early September, with traffic diverted via Pinchbeck Road, King’s Road, Bond Street Court, Winsover Road and Park Road.
Work planned during September
Alongside the restrictions, the council plans to finish the westside footway for Phase 1, build the east-side footway, begin Phase 3 footway and drainage works, and start installing infrastructure for Phase 3 traffic signals.
The wider daytime programme also includes a future Phase 5 at the Hospital Road junction. Night-time works are divided into five sections, progressing from King’s Road to West Elloe Avenue, then towards Woolram Wygate, Fern Drive, Hospital Road and Enterprise Way.
Residents and road users should check the relevant diversion before travelling, particularly when heading towards the hospital or crossing between Spalding and Pinchbeck. The council’s update does not provide a single completion date for the entire scheme, but lists Phase 4 works as continuing until mid-December.
