Traffic lights were reported to be out at two locations in and around Spalding after a power cut affected about 1,000 homes on Wednesday, August 12. Motorists reported long delays near Wardentree Lane and Wygate Park as the outage disrupted signals during the late morning.
The incident was reported at around 11.30am, with disruption extending into Pinchbeck. National Grid said the power cut was causing issues in the area, while engineers assessed what repairs were required.
Traffic delays around Spalding
Lights near both Wardentree Lane and Wygate Park in Spalding were reported to be off by motorists. With the signals not operating, drivers faced delays on roads in and around the town.
The disruption came as nearby routes were already affected by roadworks. Park Road and parts of Pinchbeck Road, close to Wygate Road in Spalding, were closed because of those works, adding to the pressure on local routes.
The combination of the power-related traffic-light failures and existing closures meant that people travelling through the affected parts of Spalding and Pinchbeck faced several sources of disruption at the same time.
Engineers assessing repairs
National Grid said its engineers were working to restore electricity but could not give a timeframe for when supplies would return. The company said the extent of the repairs was still being assessed.
“Our engineers are working to get your power back on. We’re still assessing what repairs are needed, so we don’t have a timeframe yet.”
Residents and motorists were advised that further updates were available through National Grid’s update service. At the time of the report, the number of homes affected was estimated at around a thousand.
The outage affected the wider Pinchbeck area as well as locations in Spalding, including the traffic-light points near Wardentree Lane and Wygate Park. The separate closures on Park Road and Pinchbeck Road near Wygate Road remained an additional factor for drivers navigating the area.
