A new artwork combining light, sound and metal has gone on display at Ayscoughfee Hall in Spalding.
Called Resonate, the installation was created through the Storytellers Lincolnshire project. It brought together Chain Bridge Forge, light and sound specialist Squidsoup and four young people for a piece inspired by tulips.
How the Spalding artwork was made
The project linked the four young participants with artists from Squidsoup as they developed the installation. The work also connected the project to Chain Bridge Forge and the traditional metalworking skills the charity aims to keep alive.
At the forge, the group used those skills to make metal petals. The petals are designed to resonate with sound through an attached transducer, forming part of the artwork’s combination of metal, sound and light.
The tulip inspiration gives the installation a clear connection to the flower imagery associated with the project, while the metal petals provide the physical element made at Chain Bridge Forge. The attached transducer allows the petals to carry the sound effects described as part of the work.
Where to see Resonate
Resonate is currently on display at Ayscoughfee Hall. Visitors wishing to experience the installation can go to the hall to see its light and sound effects.

The project therefore combines participation by four young people with practical metalworking at a local heritage organisation and specialist work in light and sound. Its finished form is now available to experience at Ayscoughfee Hall in the Ayscoughfee area of Spalding.
