Enterprise Way in Spalding could reopen by the end of September after a closure lasting since May, with Anglian Water saying repairs near the Edison Court junction have been completed.
The road was closed after a sink hole opened in May. The prolonged disruption has affected residents, businesses and road users, and the reopening date has already been delayed several times.
Why Enterprise Way was closed
Anglian Water said the original problem was a blockage in the public foul sewer. Wastewater then affected the excavation area, complicating the repair work.
Although the blockage was cleared, further investigations found additional issues. In August, the water company brought in ground-penetrating radar equipment to investigate the problem in more detail.
Anglian Water and Lincolnshire County Council had initially hoped to have the road operating again towards the end of June. That expectation was later moved to July 22, but Enterprise Way remained closed beyond that date.
Final highway and footpath work
Anglian Water said the affected section of sewer has now been repaired. Teams were on site this week preparing for the final reinstatement of the highway and footpath.
The company said the road closure is expected to be removed by the end of September, but the timing remains dependent on the remaining work progressing as planned. The statement does not give a specific reopening day.
That means drivers, pedestrians and nearby businesses should continue to expect restrictions until the reinstatement work is finished and the closure is formally removed.
Water company thanks Spalding residents
Anglian Water acknowledged the disruption caused by the work and thanked Spalding residents, businesses and road users for their patience while the final stage is completed.
The update was issued on September 16, when the company said the sewer repairs had been completed but the highway and footpath still required final reinstatement.
