Plans to produce liquid fertiliser at a Crowland farm have received no objections from either the Environment Agency or South Holland District Council, although the application still awaits a final decision from Lincolnshire County Council.
The proposal concerns Decoy Farm on Spalding Road, where the applicant wants to install plant and machinery to produce ammonium sulphate for use as liquid fertiliser. The process would form part of the farm’s existing anaerobic digestion operation.
How the proposed process would work
Decoy Farm was granted permission for its anaerobic digestion plant in 2020. According to the recent application, the facility has been operating successfully and currently exports energy to the National Grid by combusting biogas.
The new equipment would intercept the liquid separated during the existing process and treat it to create what the application describes as a sustainable fertiliser. The proposed machinery would be located within the wider anaerobic digestion plant.
“The production of ammonium sulphate is largely silent and odourless, and the proposed plant and equipment will be sited within the wider operation of the existing AD plant.”
That statement appears in a letter submitted by the planning consultant acting for the applicant. The letter also says the site owner owns the nearest residential properties, providing “an element of control over the operation of the entire Decoy Farm complex”.
Traffic impact and next steps
The planning documents state that the proposal would not create an impact in terms of noise or odour. They also conclude that vehicle movements would reduce rather than increase.
Lincolnshire County Council’s highways department says traffic numbers would “reduce slightly”, from 2,035 to 1,986. The figures are included in the county-level planning consultation for the scheme.
South Holland District Council is a consultee rather than the final decision-maker on the application. Recent documents show that the district council has no objections, while the Environment Agency has also recorded no objections.
The final decision rests with Lincolnshire County Council. At the time of publication on August 19, 2026, no decision had been recorded.
