Pinchbeck United’s search for a first win of the season continues after the Knights were beaten 3-1 away at Selston in Nottinghamshire.
The defeat, reported on August 12, leaves Pinchbeck with three losses from their opening four United Counties League Division One matches. The Knights’ next fixture is a home FA Vase first qualifying round tie against fellow Division One side Stapleford Town.
Early setback proved costly
Pinchbeck fell 2-0 behind inside the opening 20 minutes. Selston took the lead after nine minutes when Knights goalkeeper Pipes-Goulsbra was dispossessed, allowing Colt Reynold to roll the ball home from a difficult angle.
Ty Short added Selston’s second before Pinchbeck had settled, leaving the visitors with a significant deficit to overcome.
The Knights responded shortly after the half-hour mark. Louie Garner reduced the arrears by finishing a well-worked set-piece move, giving Pinchbeck renewed hope of rescuing a result.
Pinchbeck then pressed for an equaliser and created opportunities to draw level. Their efforts were undone with 15 minutes remaining, however, when Selston broke on the counter-attack. Leighton Bowering finished from virtually under the bar after a save to restore the hosts’ two-goal advantage.
Josh Panton was named Pinchbeck’s man of the match. The fixture attracted 35 spectators.
Harrowby match called off
The Knights had been due to play Harrowby on Tuesday night, August 11, but that match was called off because of a floodlight problem at Harrowby’s Dickens Road ground in Grantham.
Pinchbeck are therefore set to return to action in the FA Vase, hosting Stapleford Town in the competition’s first qualifying round. Both clubs play in United Counties League Division One.
The Pinchbeck team at Selston was Pipes-Goulsbra, Lee, Balding, Panton, Young, Ward, Huggins, Melson, Parker, Garner, Williams, with Waby and Shinn Balodis listed as substitutes.
