Drivers using the A16 Spalding Road in Boston should expect overnight maintenance works and traffic management across three consecutive nights from Monday, 17 August, Lincolnshire County Council has announced.
The scheme is designed to improve visibility for road users, including at the nearby level crossing, while helping surface water drain more effectively from the carriageway. Work will take place between the Liquorpond Street Roundabout and the London Road Roundabout, with completion planned for the morning of Thursday, 20 August.
What work is taking place?
Crews will cut back vegetation overhanging the carriageway, lift tree canopies, remove undergrowth and clean drainage assets along the route. Some work will also be carried out on the footpaths.
The council said the maintenance will address visibility and drainage issues, while also dealing with accessibility problems caused by overgrown vegetation. Boston Borough Council will carry out litter picking and kerb sweeping at the same time, with the aim of reducing disruption to the local traffic network.
Working hours are scheduled for 8pm to 6am each night. The work is being carried out overnight to limit the effect on daytime road users while allowing the maintenance to be completed safely.
Traffic management and access
Traffic management will remain in place throughout the scheme, including a signed diversion route. Drivers following the diversion will be directed via the A52, A17 and A16.
Pedestrians will continue to have access to the footways during the works. Pedestrian marshals will be available to guide people safely through the areas where crews are working.
Access to homes and businesses along the route will be maintained throughout the maintenance programme, according to the county council.
Cllr David East, Lincolnshire County Council’s executive member for Highways, said the work would improve the condition of the highway corridor and make it safer for people using the route.
“These works are being carried out to improve the condition of the highway corridor along the A16 Spalding Road and make it safer for those who use the route. ”
He added that cutting back vegetation, lifting tree canopies and cleaning drainage assets would improve visibility, help surface water drain more effectively and address accessibility issues.
“Regular maintenance of our highway assets is vital to keeping the network safe and operating as intended, and these works will help ensure the route remains in good condition for residents, businesses and visitors.”
The county council thanked residents, businesses and motorists for their patience while the work is completed.
