More than 5,000 people visited Spalding town centre on Sunday for a free live music and biker event organised by the Business Improvement District (BID).
Motorcycles of many different shapes and sizes formed a static display across the town, giving visitors a focal point alongside the music and other activities. The event took place in warm weather, with the BID saying the turnout created a relaxed and lively day for those attending.
Businesses helped fund the event
Sarah Fletcher, the BID’s manager, said the motorcycle turnout was particularly notable because some bikers had travelled a considerable distance to attend. She also credited businesses in the town centre whose BID levy funding made the event possible.
“The turnout of bikes on such a hot day was great to see, many bikers travelled quite a distance and what a display they gave us,”
Fletcher also encouraged people to support Spalding’s independent and town-centre businesses where possible, including by choosing to shop locally rather than buying online.
“It would not have been possible without the funding from Spalding businesses in the town centre through the BID levy, so recognition must go to them. To support them and future events like this, please before buying online, we urge you to help our local businesses by adopting a ‘shop local’ approach wherever you can.”
She said the event had helped produce a “happy, relaxed but fun day” for the town.
More Spalding events are being planned
The BID team is now preparing for its Countdown to Christmas programme and is supporting the month-long BBQ67 anniversary festival planned for May next year.
Plans listed by the BID include outdoor screenings, a classic car show, a dog show, local demonstrations, NHS health advice, Celebrate Lincolnshire’s Food and Drink day and occasional “bike night” events.
