Spalding Town Cricket Club have reached the George Marshall T20 Cup south finals day after putting their difficult Lincolnshire Premier League form behind them with two convincing wins in the semi-final round-robin.

Spalding opened with a nine-wicket victory over Grantham, who were bowled out for 65 inside 12 overs. Nilantha Atapattu led the attack with 4-19, while Walter Kinlock took 3-15 as Grantham lost their final five wickets for only four runs.

The reply lasted less than six overs. Kinlock finished unbeaten on 30 and fellow opener Chris Dring made 23 as Spalding quickly completed the win.

Power hitting puts Spalding on top

Spalding then produced another strong display against Boston. Dring made a rapid 50 from 31 balls, including two sixes and five fours, before Divyesh Vaseeharan went on to score 61 from 34 deliveries, striking four sixes and seven fours.

Barnaby Dring added 41 from 24 balls, including 24 runs in boundaries, as Spalding reached 206 for four from their 20 overs.

Boston began their chase at pace, reaching 73 without loss and then 97 for one. Spalding’s bowlers gradually regained control, with Kinlock taking 2-17, Barnaby Dring 2-19 and Vaseeharan 2-40. Josh Lawrence, Jay White and William Clark also claimed a wicket each as Boston were dismissed for 148 with one ball remaining.

The result left Spalding top of the mini-table. Grantham finished second after beating Boston by 64 runs. Spalding had already defeated Ketton Sports and Bourne in the opening round and now await confirmation of their opponents for finals day.

Moulton Harrox fall three runs short

Moulton Harrox Seconds came close to recording their first Division One South victory since the opening day, but Castor & Ailsworth held on in a dramatic finish.

Sam Frost produced a remarkable spell, taking four wickets for one run in eight balls and reducing the visitors from 94 for five to 100 for nine in the 31st over. Shanaka Sumanapala had earlier taken 3-19.

After winning the toss, Moulton captain Rob Callaby chose to field, and the decision appeared to have worked when his side reached 60 for two in reply. Jamie Juckes led the early progress with a run-a-ball 32.

The innings then collapsed to 74 for eight as Stuart Dockerill took 7-19. Callaby remained unbeaten on 11 but ran out of partners, with Moulton dismissed for 98—three runs short of victory and with more than 20 overs still available.

Defeats for second XIs

Spalding and Long Sutton’s second XIs also suffered Division Two South defeats after both teams were bowled out for fewer than 100.

Spalding were dismissed for 82 while chasing Boston Seconds’ 273 for seven. Liam Brooks scored 110 and Henry Riley 66, sharing a second-wicket stand of 171. Phil Lewis was Spalding’s leading bowler with 4-33 from six overs, while Richard Riley top-scored in the reply with 21.

At Newborough Seconds, Long Sutton were bowled out for 95 after the hosts made 223. Joe Malton led Newborough with 91 from 68 balls, while Sutton’s Callum John took 5-39 from 8.3 overs. Rajan Sangha made 33 and Uddyan Hansana 23, but four Sutton batters were dismissed for ducks and no other player passed eight.
