New parking restrictions are set to be introduced near schools across Lincolnshire, including Broad Lane in Moulton, after concerns about dangerous drop-off and pick-up practices.

Lincolnshire County Council has approved measures designed to stop vehicles obstructing bus spaces and pedestrian access. The decision is relevant to families travelling between Spalding and nearby Moulton, where the changes will affect the area around the school on Broad Lane.

What is changing near Moulton school?

The restrictions will replace double-yellow lines with no-waiting or no-loading markings at locations where parking has created safety problems. At Moulton, the source report says a bus lay-by on Broad Lane has frequently been misused.

The measures are intended to keep the designated bus area clear and improve traffic flow around the school. The report does not state the precise start date for the Moulton restriction, but says the wider approved restrictions around Carlton Boulevard and Venables Way in Lincoln will operate during weekday morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up periods.

Wider school-safety measures

Three other locations are also included in the county-wide action: Carlton Academy in Lincoln, Gipsey Bridge on Leagate Road, and Main Road in Long Benington. Carlton Academy was reported to have experienced accidents and an “excessive number of near-misses”.

Councillor Martin Christopher said incidents had included children being hit and criticised the use of roundabouts as loading bays. He supported the restrictions, saying they would make the rules clearer and give enforcement teams greater power to act. Councillor Thomas Sneath separately highlighted the repeated misuse of the Moulton bus lay-by.

The stated aim is to protect children, preserve pedestrian access and prevent vehicles from blocking spaces intended for buses. Drivers using Broad Lane should check local signs when the restrictions are introduced and avoid stopping in marked areas.
