South Holland charity Tonic Health has received an £18,900 grant from The National Lottery to continue supporting people with early-stage dementia and the carers who support them across the district.

The funding will be used for Tonic Health’s groups, including its Movement4Memory sessions. The charity runs those sessions through its branches in Spalding, Holbeach and Surfleet, giving local participants access to support close to home.

Support for people with dementia and carers

The groups are intended for people living with early-stage dementia as well as their carers. Alongside opportunities to meet other people in similar circumstances, the sessions include seated exercise, activities, signposting and guidance.

A Tonic Health spokesman said: “These groups provide a warm, fun, and non-judgmental space where participants can connect, share experiences, and build a strong peer-support network.”

The organisation said the welcoming setting is an important part of the support offered. Its sessions are designed to help participants form connections, share their experiences and access information or guidance relevant to their circumstances.

Tonic Health also said the groups play a role in reducing social isolation and improving mental health for people living with dementia and their carers. The combination of social contact, activities and seated exercise is intended to provide practical and emotional support for both groups of participants.

Funding will support the groups for a year

Zoe Turner, Tonic Health’s dementia coordinator, welcomed the grant and thanked The National Lottery Community Fund and National Lottery players for their support.

“We are thrilled and very grateful to receive this support. Thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund and National Lottery players, this will enable our early stage dementia groups to keep running and offering local support for the next year.”

The award means the early-stage dementia groups can continue for the next year, including the Movement4Memory provision available through the charity’s Spalding branch.
