A Pennygate woman has thanked a stranger for helping her get home after she was left without a taxi at Spalding Station late on Saturday night.
Sylvia Parsons had arrived at the station by train at 8.30pm after returning from a holiday in Germany. She said the taxi company cancelled her booking and that there were no taxis waiting at the station.
Ms Parsons said she struggles to walk and would not have been able to make the journey home on foot. She described the station surroundings as “pitch black” and said she was extremely worried.
Stranger steps in at Spalding Station
According to Ms Parsons, Grace was the only other person around. Grace rang taxi firms on her behalf, but none agreed to attend. She then offered to share a taxi with Ms Parsons so that she could get home.
Writing in a letter published by The Spalding and South Holland Voice, Ms Parsons said Grace’s help meant she was not left stranded.
“I want to thank her very much because without her, I would have been stuck. She was so, so kind and a life saver.”
Ms Parsons signed off her message with “Thank you Grace” and identified herself as being from Pennygate, Spalding.
Late-night travel concerns
The letter highlights the difficulty faced by a passenger needing assistance after arriving at Spalding Station late in the evening, particularly when a booked taxi is cancelled and no replacement vehicles are available.
Ms Parsons said she had been worried about getting home because of the darkness and her difficulty walking. Her account also explains why Grace’s decision to make calls and share a taxi had such a significant impact.
