A summer celebration for an over-60s lunch club linked to the Myton Food Group went ahead in Spalding after strong winds forced organisers to abandon plans for an outdoor picnic.
The club was set up through the Myton Food Group’s Morrisons store in Pinchbeck. It meets monthly and is intended to help combat isolation among older residents in the area.

When the weather made an outdoor lunch impractical, The Vista in Spalding stepped in to host the celebration. Attendees were able to share food and spend time chatting and laughing together indoors.
Jan Whitbourn, chairman of South Holland District Council, was invited to attend as the special guest.
‘A bit of wind’ could not stop the event
Tina Ellis, community champion of the Myton Group, said the afternoon showed that the weather would not prevent the club from bringing people together.
“We were delighted with how the afternoon turned out and proved that a bit of wind was never going to stop us from putting on this event. “Seeing everyone enjoy food, chatting and laughing together was heartwarming. “Community is at the core of everything we do at Myton Food Group and this was a perfect reminder of why these events matter. “We would also like to thank everyone at the Vista for their kindness in allowing us to use their facilities. “Myton strives to bring people together and make a positive local impact.”
The celebration reflects the lunch club’s wider aim of creating regular opportunities for older people to meet and reduce isolation. The Myton Food Group also thanked The Vista for making its facilities available when the picnic could not take place outside.
