A strong wind forced a planned outdoor picnic indoors, but it did not stop a summer celebration for members of the Over 60s Lunch Club linked to the Myton Food Group’s Morrisons store in Pinchbeck.
The lunch club, which meets monthly, was created for people aged over 60 to meet locally and help tackle isolation. When the weather made an outdoor gathering impractical, The Vista in Spalding stepped in to provide a venue for the celebration.
A monthly meeting aimed at tackling isolation
The club was set up by the Myton Food Group, which oversees Morrisons, from its Pinchbeck store. Its regular meetings give attendees an opportunity to share lunch and spend time together, with the wider aim of helping older residents build social connections.
The summer event was intended to take place as an outdoor picnic. However, the strong wind meant organisers had to find an indoor alternative. The Vista then hosted the group, allowing the celebration to go ahead.
Local guest joins the celebration
Jan Whitbourn, chairman of South Holland District Council, was invited to attend as the special guest.
Tina Ellis, community champion of the Myton Group, said the afternoon showed that poor weather would not prevent the club from bringing people together.
“We were delighted with how the afternoon turned out and proved that a bit of wind was never going to stop us from putting on this event.”
She said the gathering was marked by food, conversation and laughter, describing the atmosphere as particularly meaningful for those taking part.
“Seeing everyone enjoy food, chatting and laughing together was heartwarming.”
Ellis also said community work was central to the company’s approach and that the event demonstrated why activities of this kind matter.
“Community is at the core of everything we do at Myton Food Group and this was a perfect reminder of why these events matter.”

The Myton Group thanked staff at The Vista for allowing the venue to be used when the picnic could no longer be held outdoors.
