A 66-year-old man has been given a hospital order with restrictions after being found responsible for the death of a woman at a home in Spalding.
Brian Simpson was responsible for the injuries that killed 37-year-old Kristine Sparane in November 2024. A court heard that Ms Sparane suffered several heavy blows to the head.
What happened on Winsover Road
Ms Sparane’s body was found at her home on Winsover Road on November 27, 2024. Simpson was due to face a criminal trial, but doctors said his mental health meant he was unable to properly understand or take part in the proceedings.
Instead, a hearing was held to establish what happened. In May 2025, the court found Simpson responsible for the injuries that led to Ms Sparane’s death.
Hospital order and public protection
Following a hearing at Lincoln Crown Court, Simpson has now been given a hospital order with restrictions. He will receive specialist treatment in hospital and remain subject to restrictions intended to protect the public.
The court can allow criminal proceedings to restart in the future if Simpson’s condition improves enough for him to understand and take part in a trial.
Detective Superintendent Jennifer Lovatt, who led the investigation, said: “The court has carefully considered the evidence presented and has determined that a hospital order is the most appropriate outcome.”
“While this does not diminish the seriousness of the incident, the order ensures that Simpson will receive the specialist treatment and supervision required, while also providing protection for the public.”
The case concerns the death of Kristine Sparane at her Winsover Road home and the legal outcome following the court’s assessment of Simpson’s mental health and responsibility for the fatal injuries.
