Pinchbeck United remain bottom of Division One in the United Counties League, but the Knights responded to a heavy away defeat by earning a point against West Bridgford.
The Pinchbeck side returned from a long trip to South Yorkshire without a reward on Saturday, losing 4-0 to Maltby. However, the result did not reflect a lack of effort from a young Knights team that held its own for long periods before being punished on the break.
Young Knights frustrated at Maltby
Maltby took the lead after 24 minutes, but Pinchbeck had several opportunities to go into half-time level. Josh Balding, Lynden Huggins and Josh Panton all saw efforts blocked, while Marshall Young lifted the ball over the home goalkeeper only for it to strike the crossbar.
Balding then appeared to have found a way through with a header, but the attempt was cleared off the line. The Knights were 2-0 down on the hour mark after being caught out, and Maltby added a third with a long-range effort with 11 minutes remaining.
An 85th-minute scramble produced the home side’s fourth goal. The match attendance was 73.
Pinchbeck secure a point against West Bridgford
The Knights’ response came on Tuesday, when they drew 1-1 with West Bridgford. Pinchbeck remain at the foot of the table, but the draw doubled their points tally for the season.
JJ Ward went close twice before West Bridgford opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. Logan Waby then broke through shortly before half-time, although he shot wide.
Pinchbeck equalised seven minutes into the second half. Josh Panton supplied the cross and Louie Garner finished from close range with a tap-in. The attendance for that match was 80.

The results leave Pinchbeck United at the bottom of the Division One table, but the draw provides a positive result after the four-goal defeat at Maltby.
