The not-for-profit Spalding Water Taxi has resumed its service between the town centre and Springfields after Environment Agency work cleared a rapidly spreading weed blockage on the River Welland. Self-hire boats have also returned following a disruption that affected the town’s yacht club and caused a foul smell near the centre.

Spalding’s Water Taxi has been unable to leave its base since August 29 after weeds built up around Little London Bridge on the River Welland. Operator Anthony Grunwell hopes the service linking the town centre and Springfields can reopen on September 15, while Coun Mark Le Sage has called for the blockage to be removed before it affects visitors and local businesses further.

Spalding’s popular Water Taxi service was unable to run on Friday after a bank-to-bank build-up of river weed blocked the waterway at Little London Bridge. Operators said the situation had not improved by Saturday.
