Fans of Electric Light Orchestra in Spalding can look forward to an evening of classic 1970s pop when tribute band Ultimate ELO arrives at the South Holland Centre on Saturday, September 5.
The concert was announced by The Spalding and South Holland Voice on August 19, with the tribute act billed as a recreation of the band led by Jeff Lynne. The event is expected to bring ELO’s best-known songs to the South Holland Centre, including the track that inspired the announcement’s “blue skies” theme.
What to expect from Ultimate ELO
A spokesman for the South Holland Centre said the performance would feature the disco hits and anthems associated with ELO, with audiences encouraged to sing along and wave their lighter during the show.
“ELO helped form the soundtrack to the seventies, and ‘Ultimate ELO’ play sets packed with all the disco hits and lighter waving anthems that will have everyone singing along.”
The spokesman said ELO had dominated the pop charts from the middle to the late 1970s. The planned set is described as covering the group’s major run of hits from 1976 onwards, giving Spalding audiences a chance to hear a broad selection from that period in one show.
“The mid to late 70s pop charts were dominated by ELO.”
Among the songs listed are Livin’ Thing, Telephone Line, Mr Blue Sky, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Turn To Stone and Wild West Hero.
